The Four Rule Filter is just a little more complex than the simple two rule filter but adds a bit more flexibility and also can reduce the SPAM stream to the local account by deleteing mail that is not wanted before it is even put into the users account. This procedure can be done in two ways.
Method 1: Set up the four rules listed below on the Domain Administrators account and not on the local users account. The benefit to using this method is that the rules cover all the users in a domain and no single user has to set their own rules. The down side is that the administrators account controls the trusted users list.
- A standard White List Rule
- A Delete Rule which is configured in such a way that two specific conditions must be met before an email is deleted.
- A second Delete Rule which is configured in such a way that a single condition must be met before an email is deleted.
- A final Quarantine Rule which will save the detected SPAM to a location specified by the administrator for later inspection. This mail was detected as spam but the confidence level was not high enough to just delete it.
Method 2: Set up all the rules listed in Method 1 on the individual user's account and not on the domain administrators account. Using this method each user would have to set up their own 4 rules on their account. The benefit is that the user has local control over the trusted senders list.
Method 3: Split up the responsibilities. Give the following rules to the domain administrators account to be applied for all users in the domain:
- A standard White List Rule
- A Delete Rule which is configured in such a way that two specific conditions must be met before an email is deleted.
- A second Delete Rule which is configured in such a way that a single condition must be met before an email is deleted.
Have each individual user set up the following rules on their own account:
- A standard White List Rule
- A final Quarantine Rule which will save the detected SPAM to a location specified by the administrator for later inspection. This mail was detected as spam but the confidence level was not high enough to just delete it
The benefit in configuring the system according to Method three are: Globally over the domain all users benefit from a dramatically reduced amount of spam which is automatically deleted on the domain administrators side. Second, the local user has the ability to manage their own trusted senders list. |
